Meet Scott Shoemaker
Artist. Engineer. Entrepreneur. Dreamer. Doer.
You’re not the type of person who sits idly by. It isn’t your style to wait for good things to come your way. You go out and get them. You are keenly aware that dreams alone aren’t worth much. But dreams coupled with hard work? That’s the ticket. The ticket to where? That’s for you to decide.
Let me tell you a little secret – we’re a lot the same, you and I. I get you. And nothing inspires me more than listening to you talk about how you want your world to be.
My name is Scott Shoemaker, and I am your Personal Family Lawyer.
I grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. My youth and young adulthood were spent pursuing my dream of becoming a classical musician. I went so far as to earn degrees in music from Coe College, University of Nebraska, and the University of Iowa. I even spent a few years teaching at a couple of different institutions of high education.
Along the way, I realized my real passion was helping other people bring about their dreams. So I ended up in law school. While I was a student at Nebraska Law, I picked up a few awards – Order of the Barrister, for one. Two CALI Excellence for the Future awards for another. Most importantly, I came out of law school with highly refined skills and a burning desire to help my clients meet their goals.
Roughly five years after graduating from law school, and after pursuing a couple of other legal endeavors, I founded Scott Shoemaker and Associates, P.L.C. It is a law firm laser-focused on helping hard-working people protect the fruits of their labor through careful and intentional estate planning. Through our specialized training, we are able to tap into legal secrets normally reserved for the very wealthy and make them available to doers, who, like you, need real, honest, and reliable legal advice.
When I’m not at work, I like to spend time with my wife Amy and our two children. On Sundays, you can find me singing in the church choir.
I am madly in love with my city – my home – Cedar Rapids. I give it all that I can. I am lucky enough to be able to volunteer a lot. Right now, I coach state tournament qualifying mock trial teams at Washington High and Franklin Middle School. I have served as the President of the Board of Directors for Cedar Rapids PrideFest, Secretary of the Board of Directors of PFLAG Cedar Rapids, Secretary of the Board of Directors of Family Promise of Linn County, as a director of the Iowa Music and Arts Association which hosts the annual and award-winning Tournament of Drums drum corps competition. I have also served on the board of directors for the Alliance Center of Linn County, on the advisory counsel for the Boys and Girls Club of Cedar Rapids LGBT Youth Initiative, and on the Session of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
